Child Protection Specialist – MHPSS (Temporary, 6 months)

About the role

UNICEF is recruiting a Child Protection Specialist (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support – MHPSS) on a six‑month temporary appointment based in Caracas, Venezuela. The specialist will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of MHPSS interventions for children and caregivers affected by the June 24 earthquakes, working under the supervision of the Child Protection Specialist.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive psychosocial support programme for displaced and earthquake‑affected children.
• Provide technical leadership and coordination for MHPSS activities across sectors and with government, UN agencies and humanitarian partners.
• Ensure community engagement, accountability and behaviorally informed approaches are integrated into all interventions.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on programme outcomes, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s Core Commitments.
• Support capacity building of local partners and contribute to the sustainability of MHPSS infrastructure.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in psychology, social work, public health or a related field.
• Relevant experience in child protection and mental health/psychosocial support in humanitarian or emergency contexts.
• Proven ability to work under government leadership and coordinate multi‑sectoral responses.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
