Child Protection Specialist – Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (6-month TA)

About the role

The Child Protection Section at UNICEF is seeking a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Specialist on a six‑month temporary appointment in Caracas. Working under the supervision of a Child Protection Specialist, you will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of psychosocial programmes for children affected by the recent earthquakes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for MHPSS interventions in response to the earthquake.
• Design and implement psychosocial support programmes for displaced and affected children.
• Ensure community engagement, accountability and behaviorally informed approaches are integrated across sectors.
• Coordinate with national authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and other partners.
• Strengthen the capacity of local actors to deliver sustainable MHPSS services.
• Monitor programme performance and report on outcomes in line with UNICEF standards.

Required profile

• University degree in psychology, social work, public health or a related field.
• Relevant experience in child protection and MHPSS within humanitarian emergencies.
• Experience in programme design, implementation and monitoring.
• Ability to work under supervision and collaborate with multi‑sectoral partners.
• Knowledge of UNICEF Core Commitments for Children and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
