Child Protection Officer (GBV) – Temporary Appointment

About the role

The Child Protection Officer (GBV) will support UNICEF’s emergency response in Venezuela following the recent earthquakes. The role focuses on safeguarding children and women affected by the crisis, ensuring their rights are protected and that they receive timely assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate child protection and gender‑based violence (GBV) activities with national, regional and local partners.
• Conduct rapid assessments to identify protection risks and gaps for children and caregivers.
• Develop and implement protection strategies, including case management, safe spaces, and psychosocial support.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to UNICEF staff and partners on child protection standards.
• Monitor and report on protection indicators, ensuring compliance with UNICEF policies and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in social work, psychology, international development or a related field.
• Experience working in humanitarian settings, preferably with children and GBV interventions.
• Strong knowledge of child protection frameworks and UN protection standards.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills, with ability to work in a multicultural environment.

• Proficiency in data collection, analysis and reporting.
