Protection Officer – Counter Trafficking, Child Protection & GBV

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Protection Officer to lead and coordinate protection activities in its Venezuela Country Office. The role focuses on counter‑trafficking, child protection and gender‑based violence, while integrating protection considerations across other programmes such as assisted voluntary return, emergency response and border management.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation and monitoring of protection interventions, ensuring alignment with IOM policies and standards.
• Lead activities related to counter‑trafficking, child protection and gender‑based violence, including case management, referrals and advocacy.
• Promote mainstreaming of protection principles into programmes such as assisted voluntary return, emergency response, immigration and border management, and transition & recovery.
• Collaborate closely with the Protection Division at the Regional Office and Headquarters, providing regular updates and technical input.
• Support the development of protection strategies, tools and training for staff and partners.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in protection, humanitarian affairs, social work, law or a related field.
• Experience working on protection issues, preferably in migration contexts, with a focus on trafficking, child protection or gender‑based violence.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multi‑stakeholder environments and coordinate with government, NGOs and UN agencies.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with fluency in English; knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
