Protection Associate

About the role

The Protection Associate will support IOM Venezuela’s protection activities in the aftermath of the June 2026 earthquakes. Working under the Chief of Mission and the Senior Protection Associate, the role focuses on field‑level interventions, community engagement, monitoring, referrals and information management to safeguard displaced and earthquake‑affected populations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing protection interventions in line with IOM standards and donor requirements.
• Conduct protection monitoring and collect data on protection risks affecting vulnerable groups.
• Facilitate referrals to relevant services and maintain accurate information management systems.
• Support community engagement activities to raise awareness of protection rights.
• Coordinate with the Protection Officer and programme teams to ensure a multisectoral response.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in humanitarian protection, social sciences, law or related fields.
• Experience working in protection or humanitarian contexts, preferably in emergency settings.
• Ability to work under supervision while demonstrating initiative and teamwork.
• Strong communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency is essential.

Required skills

• Knowledge of protection principles, standards and monitoring methodologies.
• Familiarity with data collection and information management tools used in humanitarian operations.
• Ability to produce clear reports and maintain accurate records.
