Emergency Specialist – Emergency Preparedness & Response

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an experienced Emergency Specialist to lead preparedness and response activities for the ongoing earthquake emergency in Venezuela. The role is based in Caracas and works directly with government, UN agencies, NGOs and affected communities to ensure rapid, life‑saving assistance for children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor emergency preparedness and response plans, including contingency and early‑warning mechanisms.
• Conduct rapid needs assessments and coordinate resource mobilisation.
• Ensure gender‑sensitive approaches are integrated into all emergency actions.
• Provide technical advice on programme management and emergency measures.
• Facilitate information flow and coordination across UNICEF sectors and external partners.
• Organise and deliver training to strengthen the emergency response capacity of staff and implementing partners.

Required profile

• Proven field experience in complex humanitarian emergencies.
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver results in fast‑moving contexts.
• Strong coordination skills with government, UN bodies and NGOs.
• Experience in gender‑responsive emergency planning.
