Child Protection Officer (Alternative Care)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Child Protection Officer (Alternative Care) for a six‑month temporary appointment in Caracas, Venezuela. The role supports the government and partners in strengthening the child protection system in the aftermath of the recent earthquakes, focusing on the identification, case management, interim care, family tracing and reunification of unaccompanied and separated children.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to government authorities and partners to enhance child protection protocols and capacities.
• Support the assessment of evolving needs and respond to child protection concerns, including prevention of family separation and promotion of family‑based care.
• Coordinate with national, regional and local authorities, UN agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure a coherent response.
• Assist in the implementation of interim care, family tracing and reunification processes for unaccompanied and separated children.
• Contribute to UNICEF’s core commitments for children in humanitarian action.

Required profile

• Experience in child protection, preferably in alternative care or humanitarian contexts.
• Knowledge of child protection systems, case management and family‑based care principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government officials, NGOs and UN partners.
• Strong communication and coordination skills in a crisis‑affected environment.
