Senior Backend Engineer (TypeScript & AI)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain the core services of a fast‑growing AI startup. The position is fully remote (LATAM) and operates in the U.S. West Coast (PST/PDT) time zone. You will work closely with the technical founders to create scalable, reliable infrastructure and embed AI‑driven automation throughout the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript.
• Own and evolve the platform’s data layer and runtime environment.
• Create efficient database schemas and optimise application performance.
• Build and maintain integrations with multiple third‑party APIs, handling inconsistent or undocumented interfaces.
• Develop adapter layers to normalise external data structures.
• Debug and improve complex asynchronous systems, queues, and distributed workflows.
• Enhance observability, monitoring, and overall platform reliability.
• Collaborate with founders to implement AI‑powered workflows and automation across engineering.
• Continuously evaluate and adopt new AI development tools to boost productivity.

Required profile

• Strong professional experience building backend applications with TypeScript.
• Proficiency in Node.js and production‑grade asynchronous job systems, queues, and distributed processing.
• Demonstrated ability to design scalable backend architectures and data models.
• Experience working within large TypeScript codebases (300k+ lines of code or comparable complexity).
• Track record of building and maintaining multiple third‑party integrations.
• Excellent debugging skills in asynchronous and production environments.
• Understanding of concurrent browser automation and fingerprinting concepts.
• Familiarity with SQL databases.
