Emergency Manager (P-5) – Temporary Appointment

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior Emergency Manager (P-5) to lead the country office’s response to the recent devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. This temporary appointment (364 days) will set the strategic direction for emergency preparedness, coordination and humanitarian assistance, ensuring the protection and well‑being of children and families affected by the disaster.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the emergency response plan for the country office, aligning with UNICEF’s core commitments.
• Coordinate with national, regional and local authorities, UN agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure a coherent and timely response.
• Oversee rapid needs assessments, resource mobilization and delivery of life‑saving assistance.
• Lead child protection interventions, including family‑based care and prevention of separation.
• Provide strategic advice to the UNICEF Representative and senior management on evolving needs and operational challenges.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in managing large‑scale humanitarian emergencies, preferably in Latin America.
• Proven ability to work in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments and to lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of UNICEF’s child‑focused humanitarian approach and protection standards.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English; Spanish is an advantage.
