Director of Nutrition Services

About the role

The Director of Nutrition Services leads the school district’s child nutrition program, ensuring compliance with Opaa! policies, client requirements, and governmental regulations. This senior position serves as the primary liaison between Opaa! and the district, overseeing kitchen operations, staff performance, and program quality.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily production across all kitchens, reviewing menus, production boards, food quality, cleanliness, and HACCP compliance.
• Validate production records, reimbursable meals, and tray counts through the Point of Sale (POS) system.
• Manage cost per meal parameters, including food, waste, labor, and supplies.
• Ensure timely, high‑quality meal preparation, service, and transportation to satellite sites.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness, organization, and equipment upkeep; report maintenance issues.
• Lead weekly Kitchen Managers meetings, daily huddles, and monthly leadership sessions.
• Hire, onboard, train, schedule, and evaluate all direct reports while adhering to labor regulations.
• Address performance issues, enforce HR policies, and track team accountability.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing school or child nutrition programs.
• Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety regulations, and state education nutrition standards.
• Ability to oversee multiple kitchen sites and coordinate logistics.
• Effective leadership and communication skills to manage staff and liaise with district officials.
