COBOL Developer – Remote (Full‑time)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced COBOL Developer to maintain and modernize mission‑critical applications on IBM mainframe systems. The role is fully remote and involves working with large‑scale enterprise environments to ensure stability and evolution of core business logic.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code, test and debug COBOL programs for batch and online CICS processing.
• Maintain and optimise data access using DB2, VSAM and JCL to guarantee performance and data integrity.
• Analyse existing legacy code and documentation to identify modernization and refactoring opportunities.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate mainframe applications with cloud‑native architectures.
• Provide expert production support, including root‑cause analysis and remediation for mission‑critical systems.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies to deliver high‑quality software updates.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of software engineering experience in mainframe environments.
• Proven expertise in developing and maintaining applications with COBOL, CICS and DB2.
• Strong proficiency in JCL, VSAM and batch/online processing.
• Hands‑on experience with IBM mainframe systems in banking, insurance or government sectors.
• Experience modernising legacy COBOL applications.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
