Backend Engineer (Scala) – Remote

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer specialized in Scala to join our fully remote team. You will design and build high‑performance, data‑intensive services that power critical applications for global clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services using Scala and functional programming patterns.
• Develop high‑concurrency systems with frameworks such as Akka or Play.
• Optimize application performance by tuning JVM internals and managing memory.
• Create and maintain complex SQL queries and data models for data‑heavy workloads.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define architectural standards and service requirements.
• Ensure system robustness through automated testing and proactive troubleshooting of distributed systems.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on functional programming.
• Proven expertise building backend services and data‑intensive applications using Scala.
• Strong knowledge of Akka or Play frameworks for scalable, concurrent systems.
• Deep understanding of JVM internals and SQL for performance optimization.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
