Backend Engineer (PHP) – Remote

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer specialized in PHP to design, develop, and maintain high‑performance web applications and APIs. You will work remotely with a global team of top‑tier engineers, modernizing legacy systems and delivering scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services using PHP 7.4+/8+ and frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony.
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs for seamless integration with front‑end applications and third‑party services.
• Lead refactoring initiatives to improve code maintainability, performance, and security.
• Manage and optimize database schemas and queries in MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into efficient technical implementations.
• Ensure high code quality through testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in backend engineering with a focus on PHP.
• Proven expertise with PHP 7.4+/8+ and MVC frameworks like Laravel or Symfony.
• Strong hands‑on experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Solid proficiency in SQL databases, specifically MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.
• Experience modernizing and refactoring legacy codebases.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
