Child Protection Officer (MHPSS) – 6‑month assignment

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Child Protection Officer with expertise in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of MHPSS services for children and families affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. This six‑month fixed‑term assignment will be based in Caracas and will work under the supervision of a Child Protection Specialist.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and follow up MHPSS services for children and families in coordination with national authorities.
• Define and operationalise referral mechanisms for child victims, including cases of gender‑based violence.
• Coordinate with other humanitarian actors delivering MHPSS to avoid duplication and enhance response effectiveness.
• Ensure MHPSS principles are integrated throughout the humanitarian response cycle, from emergency communication to early recovery.

Required profile

• Professional experience in child protection and MHPSS in humanitarian settings.
• Knowledge of national child protection systems and referral pathways.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government, UN agencies and NGOs.
• Strong analytical and coordination skills.
